Thanks-Giving Season is Here
Are you ready for Thanks-Giving? No, I’m not talking about — the family gathering to enjoy a bounty of food and watch football — Thanksgiving, but rather the Giving Thanks to your supporters for everything they have done for your cause all year, and especially for what they will do in this final quarter of the year. Do you have creative, fun, this-will-get-noticed recognition plans in place so your supporters will feel appreciated as they support your year-end fundraising events or make donations to support these events and appeals? Many of your supporters will be taking time from their busy schedules to attend another event, committee, board, or annual meeting. Some will donate items to help with your annual holiday or year-end auction. And many will give sacrificially to help further the great work your organization is doing.
NOW is the time dump your usual thank you letter and create one that goes the extra mile to expresses the depth of your gratitude. Use language that encourages your supporters to read your letter and will make them feel as if you are addressing them personally. Do not forget to include in your thank you letter how their actions and treasures helped changed lives, better yet, identify a real story and share specifically the difference their support made.
Here is a list to follow to be sure your thank you letter this giving season is effective:
- Focus on the donor not your organization
- Personalize the letter
- Capture the donor’s attention from the very beginning
- Use storytelling
- Use calls-to-action
- Don’t just ask for money!
- Send your letter in a timely manner
