Charities@Work Summit Promises Attendees Fresh Perspective on CSR

Katie Dunlap June 5, 2018 CSR Trends

Charities@Work, a top CSR conference, is just around the corner! The annual summit, held in New York City, takes place June 27-28th. It is an incredible forum for CSR practitioners to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and enhance their company and employee’s ability to create greater social impact. The themes this year include integrating business goals and values, demonstrating impact, and innovative approaches to employee engagement.

We reached out to three incredible CSR practitioners serving on Charities@Work’s Advisory Council:

  • Matthew Nelson, Corporate Vice President, Corporate Responsibility, New York Life
  • Tiffany Calderon, Sr. Manager – Community Relations, Best Buy
  • Michael Carren, Chair of Charities@Work Advisory Council, Head of Strategic Philanthropy, The Guardian Life Insurance Company

We asked them what attendees should expect from the Summit this year. Check out their responses below:

What makes Charities@Work a top CSR conference to attend?

MN: It is the one place that I meet and learn from colleagues from across the country who speak my language and know my job! They know the practical side of volunteer, matching gift, and giving campaign programs.

TC: Charities@Work Summit brings together corporate citizenship and engagement professionals to learn from each other and subject matter experts in a fun and energetic atmosphere. Each year there are new cutting-edge topics that really make you think about the delivery of the programs at your company.

MC: The topics are timely and relevant to all CSR professionals and the opportunity to learn from and network with peers is unmatched.

What should attendees expect to learn this year?

MN: You should expect to learn best practices, practical advice, and ideas that challenge your thinking. You will hear these ideas from the stage, and from your colleagues in the room as well.

TC: There is an awesome opportunity on Day 1 for emerging leaders to interact with senior CSR leaders to not only build a personal network but also seek advice and share best practices.

Day 2, the attendees at the Summit will cover topics such as:

  • Employee activism and inclusion in your workplace
  • Improving employee engagement through innovative NGO partnerships and skills-based volunteering
  • Leveraging CSR communication and marketing channels to tell your story
  • Aligning employee engagement and corporate purpose
  • Measuring and demonstrating the impact of your CSR efforts
  • Integrating the latest workplace giving trends into your programs

MC: How CSR, purpose, and innovation all come together as tools to drive employee engagement and business development.

How is Charities@Work different than other conferences?

MN: Attendees at this conference know your joys and your challenges. They feel your pain and they are happy to share their insights.

TC: Charities@Work Summit has always provided me with thought-provoking topics that have challenged my thinking about the programs we offer at Best Buy.  I’ve had the opportunity to ask candid questions of the presenters and have received real, candid answers, sharing not only their wins but also the pitfalls they experienced in program development and delivery. Beyond the knowledge sharing, I believe that the size and format of this conference really enable attendees to build a network of experts and life-long friends. I reach out to my network throughout the year, especially when I am in need of their fresh perspectives or to seek their expertise and advice.

MC: It is a cross-sector partnership of leading federations and companies that is designed with the CSR practitioner first in mind

Is there anything else you’d like us to know?

MN: Make this conference worth your while. Work the room. Track down people who share interesting ideas. We are all in this together!

TC: I highly recommend the Charities@Work Summit to refresh your perspectives, build your network, and ignite your energy for the programs that truly make a difference for your employees and the community.

MC: The conference offers value for CSR professionals in all stages of their careers.
